Moist Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Fudge Frosting

You’ll Need (for the cake):

2 cups of flour.
2 cups of sugar.
1 tsp of baking soda.
¾ tsp of salt.
½ tsp of cinnamon.
½ cup of butter.
½ cup of applesauce.
⅓ cup of cocoa powder.
1 cup of water.
½ cup of buttermilk.
2 eggs.
2 tsps of vanilla.

You’ll Need (for the frosting):

½ cup of butter.
¼ cup of cocoa powder.
¼ cup of milk.
4 cups of powdered sugar.
1 tsp of vanilla.


Preheat the oven to 375° and grease a 9×13 baking dish.
Mix together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt and cinnamon in a large mixing bowl.
In a saucepan, melt the butter and mix in the applesauce, cocoa powder and water. Bring to a boil stirring constantly. Pour over the dry ingredients while still hot and stir to combine.
Add in the buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla and stir until well blended.
Pour in the baking dish and bake for 25 to 28 minutes.

You need to prepare the frosting during the last 5 minutes of the cake’s baking.
Bring to a boil the butter and cocoa powder in a medium saucepan stirring constantly.
Pour into a stand mixer and blend with milk, powdered sugar and vanilla until well combined.
Once the cake is ready, pour the hot frosting over the hot cake and add some sprinkles on top before the frosting colds.
