  • 1 cup (240 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 + 3/4 cups (350 g) granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) buttermilk (room temperature)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) hot coffee or hot water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup (230 g) butter, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup (200 g) chocolate hazelnut spread
  • 2 + 1/2 cups (310 g) sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) milk or cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • A pinch of salt
  • Optional garnishes: chopped roasted hazelnuts, grated chocolate, or chocolate sauce

  1. Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease and line two 8-inch pans.
  2. Mix flour, cocoa, ground hazelnuts, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  4. Add buttermilk and fold in dry ingredients just until combined.
  5. Add hot coffee, smooth batter, divide into pans, and smooth tops.
  6. Bake 30–35 minutes. Cool 10 minutes in pans, then transfer to wire racks.
  7. For frosting: Beat butter until light, add chocolate hazelnut spread, powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
  8. Assemble: Frost first layer, add second layer, cover with remaining frosting, garnish if desired.
