Preparation
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
- Pat chicken dry and season both sides with salt and pepper.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add oil or butter. Brown the chicken 2–3 minutes per side until golden, then remove chicken and set aside.
Cooking
- In the same skillet, lower heat to medium and add garlic. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Pour in chicken broth and scrape any brown bits from the pan. Stir in cream and cream cheese until smooth. Simmer for 2–3 minutes to thicken.
- Return chicken to the skillet or place chicken in the baking dish and pour sauce over it. Sprinkle with cheese and breadcrumbs if using.
- Bake uncovered for 18–22 minutes, until chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) and sauce is bubbly. For an extra golden top, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end.
- Let rest for 5 minutes, then garnish with parsley and serve.
Notes
Use room-temperature cream cheese for smoother mixing. If the sauce is too thin, simmer a bit longer. Add Dijon mustard or smoked paprika for extra flavor. Try a New Orleans-style spice mix for a spicy twist.
