  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or mix of chips and chunks; optional) Chop chocolate for melted pockets.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Balances sweetness.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and butter until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl, then gradually mix into the creamed mixture.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips.
Baking
  1. Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans.
  2. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, until edges are lightly toasted.
  3. Let cool on wire racks.

Notes

For chewier centers, underbake by a minute or cool on the pan before transferring to wire racks. For crisp cookies, flatten slightly before baking.
