Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a pot, heat the milk over medium heat.
- In a bowl, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, eggs, and vanilla.
- Gradually add the warm milk to the mixture, whisking constantly until well combined.
- Return the mixture to the pot and cook over medium heat, stirring until it thickens.
- Remove from heat and let cool.
Assembly
- Brush a baking dish with melted butter.
- Layer several sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each layer with butter.
- Spread the custard filling over the phyllo.
- Layer more phyllo on top, brushing each sheet with butter.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve.
Notes
Leftovers reheat beautifully and can be frozen for quick breakfasts or desserts. Serve with a simple fruit salad for added fiber.
