Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a small bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until smooth and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time until well blended.
Mixing
- Gradually add the flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using.
Baking
- Drop the dough by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 9 to 11 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.
Notes
For chewier cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking. You can prepare the dough in advance and freeze it.
