  • 1 large baguette or Italian loaf A crusty baguette is preferred for the best texture.

Tomato Mixture

  • 3 pieces ripe tomatoes, finely diced Roma or vine-ripened tomatoes work best.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic is recommended for the best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped Essential for the distinct aroma.
  • 1/4 cup olive oil Use extra virgin olive oil if possible.
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar Adds a sweet-tangy undertone.
  • to taste salt & pepper Season generously to enhance flavors.

Optional Topping

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese Optional; adds a rich, salty finish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Slice your baguette or Italian loaf lengthwise and lay both halves, cut-side up, on a baking sheet.

Mixing Topping

  • In a bowl, gently stir together diced tomatoes, minced garlic, chopped basil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and a pinch each of salt and pepper.
  • Let the mixture sit for 5–10 minutes to allow flavors to meld.

Baking

  • Spoon the tomato mixture generously over the bread halves and top with grated Parmesan if using.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are crisp and the toppings are fragrant.

Serving

  • Slice and serve warm on a platter.

Notes

Best served immediately after baking. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days; reheat in the oven to maintain crunch. Can prepare the tomato mixture in advance.
