Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, mix melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until combined.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet, mixing until just combined—don’t overmix.
- Fold in chocolate chips and chopped nuts if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly with a spatula.
Baking
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow to cool before cutting into bars.
Notes
If you want slightly gooey centers, pull them out nearer to 25 minutes; for firmer bars, give them the full 30. These bars can be stored at room temperature for 1-2 days, in the fridge for 4-5 days, or frozen for up to 3 months.
