Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream or coconut milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Optional:

  • Basmati rice or naan bread for serving

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken:
    • In a large bowl, mix the yogurt, lemon juice, cumin, coriander, turmeric, garam masala, paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), and salt.
    • Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated.
    • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight for the best flavor.
  2. Cook the Chicken:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Arrange the marinated chicken pieces on a baking sheet lined with foil.
    • Bake for 15-20 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and slightly charred around the edges.
  3. Prepare the Sauce:
    • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat.
    • Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.

    • Add the cumin, coriander, turmeric, garam masala, and chili powder, stirring to combine.

  4. Finish the Dish:
    • Stir the cream or coconut milk into the tomato sauce, mixing well.
    • Add the cooked chicken pieces to the sauce and let them simmer for another 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve:
    • Garnish the Chicken Tikka Masala with fresh cilantro.
    • Serve hot with basmati rice or naan bread.
